Anchoring the Hechai 1972 Art District’s edge, the Hechai Design Center re-imagines the podium-tower typology as a progressive stack of interlocking, workplace clusters. 4 rooftop terraces — carving out respites for social exchange — sculpt a terraced mass that bridges the scales of the district’s low-rise fabric to the high-rise CBD, stitching a 6-meter rift between the sunken former prison site and the city. Cascading arches on the façade pay homage to the iconic vaults that span the prison workshops. This landmark redefines Hefei’s skyline, catalyzing evolution for this once-derelict site.
