The City of Vero Beach, FL decommissioned Big Blue - a power plant on the Indian River Lagoon - positioning it for development among privatized beachfront. Our winning competition bid envisioned a rare civic opportunity to create a publicly accessible waterfront and mixed-use realm for “all” with free to various price-point activities. Big Blue reimagined is a community hub linking its Generator Hall Marketplace to a Festival Piazza, Hotels, Waterfront Village, Event Center, Marina, Pier, and Skatepark - preserving mangroves, integrating living seawalls and building long-term resilience.
