Pioneering the use of mass timber in residential design in India, this house for a young techpreneur is wrapped in charred wood panels to blend into its forested surroundings. The home is value-engineered through an approach that addresses both economic and environmental concerns. Perched atop a steeply sloped, verdant site, the structure’s minimally invasive foundation of stilts and retaining walls preserves the natural terrain and protects the structure from moisture. The superstructure is composed of eleven prefabricated glulam portal frames, enabling precise and sustainable construction.
