Located north of Oslo, this 940 sqft ski cabin honors the history, forms, and efficient space planning of the traditional Norwegian hytte (rural cabin), reinterpreting the typology in a lofty, light interior with ample indoor-outdoor connection. In response to codes requiring a gabled roof, Mylla splits the gable in half to create four independent shed roof volumes that radiate in a pinwheel configuration. The wings of the house direct views towards four distinct surrounding landscapes and the roof geometry directs snowshed away from two sheltered outdoor spaces framed by the cruciform plan.
