This new student residence, a hybrid facility, houses student, scholar, and academic spaces. Located in a rural campus, the new building reflects its time yet evokes the existing campus’ architectural vocabulary of red brick and stone portals, through its scale, geometry and palette of materials. The pre-cast concrete elements echo the traditional stone portals of the campus. The fanning piers focus the flow from the campus into the heart of the dormitory, while on the river side the cascading piers step down to lead the students towards the agora, connecting the campus to the river.
