Abandon self-centered thinking and fixed perceptions. Preserve existing features while making simple changes to foster deeper urban identity—this is the guiding principle of the No. 5 Courtyard renovation. Located at a key public space in Beijing’s West Third Ring Road, the project retains the original strip windows and adds large UHPC panels, creating a contrast with glass and metal, reflecting Beijing’s solidity and traditional Chinese architecture's transparency. Connecting the east and west entrances enhances the integration of park, building, and city, fostering a sense of community.
