The Ryan Gray Playground for All Children is an ADA accessible playground built in memory of a student from Hillcrest Elementary School. University of Kansas 3rd-year Architecture students built a 180m2 shade pavilion and rain garden adjacent to the playground. The pleated form follows an existing curved concrete slab to shade existing picnic benches and blend in with playground amenities. Colorful roof tiles compliment a vibrant playscape and reflect the international heritage of Hillcrest students. Playground signage is framed by the pavilion to strengthen unique forms present at the site.
