While multi-purpose performance spaces are often nicknamed ‘black box’ theatres, we were more interested in the concept of an ‘open box’, one that resonates with people who work and live in the neighbourhood, one that almost broadcast the artistic and creative energy of what goes on inside the box more than sounding like closed-in and secretive. A new identity was created for this multi-functional venue, a space that is synonymous with the client’s flagship “live, work, play” community, based on the central ideas of the open box, resonance and broadcast, and the beauty of movement.
