The HQ of Draper Laboratory, a not-for-profit research and development company, was built in the 1970s as a U-shaped building surrounding a plaza. The plaza has been enclosed by a 25,000sf glass-and-steel atrium rising the full height of the existing building. In line with Draper’s brand strategy of transparency, one side of the atrium is open to the public and features an amphitheater and several small meeting areas. The other side offers employees multiple opportunities for relaxation and collaboration within a cafeteria, coffee bar, informal seating areas, and a “Guru Bar” for tech help.
