The request by the client was to be able to have a quiet life, whilst considering their future retirement. We designed Kokubu according to the traditional lifestyle of Japan, closely related to nature, but using contemporary materials. Volcanic ash walls and an extensive use of wood let the building blend into the surrounding nature. Among Kokubu's signature features is a wood lattice with a unique design, made up of sections of wood of varying length. To keep an appropriate distance from the surrounding environment, we decided to use this latticework, where pitch and size are changed.
