Built in 1871, Mayo is the busiest hospital in Pakistan's most populated province, the Punjab. With twenty-thousand daily visitors and little upkeep, both the buildings and grounds show signs of wear and tear. Lahore-based design firm AEDL's rehabilitation project at Mayo Lahore creates a balance between historic building features and elements added over time. The renovation of the 19th-century reception hall was executed with sensitivity to design elements used in the heritage structure, but also infused the space with contemporary elements, such as bespoke chandeliers and furniture.
