Maintaining the radial symmetry around the hearth of the dynamically-ordered Nunemaker Center, the studio sought to transform two uninspired classrooms. New glass walls replaced solid walls to draw in borrowed natural light from a shared double-height atrium; new wood ceiling and wall surfaces add much-needed character and functionality to the spaces; enlarged spaces and improved circulation contribute to a better experience; and newly exposed concrete floors connect the spaces back to the Brutalist character of the building. While transformed, the new spaces feel like they have always been.
