The Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences Building defines a new campus gateway for the University of Sydney and is a clear demonstration of its commitment to teaching, scientific research and faculty. A carefully articulated response to a complicated triangular site preserves mature fig trees on one boundary and connects with the existing Carslaw Building to the North. The faceted façade, inspired by the sandstone escarpments of the Blue Mountains, presents a visually interesting and beautifully functional building that has an aspirational quality both internally and externally.
