Bricks are integral to the New York City historic district of Tribeca, where System Architects created a unique façade on a landmarked building. The complex geometry is mirrored within, where an interior wall of twisted brick anchors the building, it’s curves providing seating, shelving, and even a fireplace. But the radical twists and folds are accomplished with standard bricks. The bold design was approved by the local Landmarks Preservation Commission in a rare unanimous vote. The result is a remarkable new type of building rooted in the area’s past, signaling that a new era has arrived.
