Built in the 60s as a windowless concrete building, Phipps Conservatory’s new Exhibit Staging Center (ESC) now showcases the latest green technology, transforming an eyesore into an environment dedicated to the physical well-being of its occupants, visitors and the ecosystem. The ESC is net-positive energy, with lighting that runs on DC electricity produced by rooftop PVs. All rainwater is managed on site and all sanitary water is cleaned through a constructed wetland system and reused. The ESC proves the least healthy spaces can be transformed to enhance human and environmental well-being.
