Amsterdam For a participatory housing project, we developed with the owners 17 large apartments and working spaces located on a long rectangular plot. As the urban plan assigned a high-rise building on the adjacent lot, half of our western facade would be in the shade. In order to provide direct sun- and daylight, a high-compact volume, overlooking the city on the southeast side, has a corner carved out from the mass to create a cascade of spacious L-shaped balconies. The west side of the plot remains unbuilt providing ample room for a garden or large terrace for the community.
