As a contemporary paradigm of the single-family home, Jackman House in Toronto’s Playter Estates is contextually responsive in scale, form and materiality—a cleanly sculpted volume whose façades are detailed with sloped-stretcher ironspot brick to convey pattern, depth, texture and shadow. Tightly programmed, the house optimizes light transmission through judiciously placed windows and skylights, enhancing the sectionally rich and compelling spatial dynamic. Integration of interior and exterior space is achieved through abundant glazing, outdoor rooms, and a comprehensive landscaping strategy.
