The Woodlawn Residential and Dining Commons sits on a compact site at the southern edge of the campus abutting a historic neighborhood. Embracing the University of Chicago’s pedagogical House concept that promotes community and intellectual exchange within tightly knit cohorts of undergraduates, the Commons consists of three six-story and one fifteen-story residential wings set on a common single-story amenities level. The efficient plan supports eleven houses comprised of three stacked 40-person floorplates all connected by a three-story common lounge – a physical and metaphorical connector.
