Muskoka Cottage embraces its earthy northern context, combining minimalism’s reductive clarity with the rustic charm of living in the woods. The family cottage is sited on Precambrian bedrock, leaving the terrain almost entirely untouched. The main volume steps down the sloped landscape to provide a walk-out toward the lake. Operable glass walls on the upper level open to a wraparound deck, and a playfully exaggerated rooftop features deep soffits to reduce solar heat gain. The interior's raw materiality is a contemporary expression of the warmth and quietude found in traditional cottages.
