A rare, low-rise commercial building in downtown Toronto draws design inspiration for scale and materiality from its historic setting with playful syncopated arches and alcoves in masonry and mortar applied for a textured, monolithic surface at grade. This contrasts the fully glazed and fritted, light-as-air upper two floors which blend with the sky. This highly sustainable, hybrid heavy timber structure features stepped back green terraces with custom balustrades, a green roof, and continuous bronze banding to create visual interest in this approachable, honest, and finely crafted building.
