Yulhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, where Neouljip (House of Round Waves) is located, is a neighborhood with chestnut trees, at the southern border of Seoul.“Yul” in classic Chinese character means “chestnut”. This neighborhood is also popularly referred as “Professor Neighborhood”, an academically oriented town. Neouljip, located at a chestnut hill neighborhood, derives its coastal name (out-of-context name) from a challenging request by the client, which ran against the zoning ordinance. Neouljip met this conflicting challenge by using skip-floor strategy inside and curved surfaces outside.
