New York City is often called the “concrete jungle”, but for many, it is the place where dreams are forged. This photograph captures a solitary pedestrian navigating the sidewalk in front of a formidable concrete monster, known as the “Spring Street Salt Shed” in Manhattan. The Salt Shed rises 70 feet high along the Hudson River and has the capacity to store up to 5,000 tons of salt. The building’s massive, faceted planes of cast-in-place concrete, shaped like the very product it holds—a grain of salt—stand as a testament to the city’s enduring strength and architectural boldness.
