For the past 50 years I’ve been making photographs for this body of work the photography scholar, Bruno Chalifour, referred to as “Conceptual Documentary” in an editorial for Afterimage. The photographs, for me, reflect a view of the world as a series of events we create. This series of photographs is strongly informed by writers like Camus, Sartre and Dostoevsky. These photographs ask questions about the nature of reality and truth. As Jean Baudrillard once told me during a picnic in Arles, “the photograph is not a document - it is a fiction.
