More than a thousand years ago, craftsmen were carving exquisite details in the interiors of temples in India, even on supporting pillars. They range from depictions of figures, animals and Gods, to abstract shapes and patterns. These are a testament to a complex and vibrant civilization that existed there; a civilization that incorporated beauty into its functional support structures. In the context of architecture built in similar periods elsewhere in the world, or even today, these are amazing accomplishments; many of which have gone unrecognized.
