Grand Palais - Chatillon Architectes - Paris © Charly Broyez
Built for the 1900 World's Fair and never fully restored, the New Grand Palais has been reconnected as a single building. Chatillon Architectes' four-year project reopened the north-south and east-west axes, removed a 1937 partition between the nave and the Palais de la Découverte, and restored the glass roofs, statuary, balconies and 150 windows. Circulation was rationalised with 40 lifts, galleries modernised for flexible cultural use, and public access increased by 140 per cent across 72,000 sqm. New work used low-carbon concrete, certified timber and local stone. Fully reopened June 2025.
