Taking cues from hospitality design, Elkus Manfredi Architects created a warm and welcoming co-working space by introducing a variety of seating options in the Kendall Square office tower lobby. Rather than add new structures, designers used furniture, built-ins, light fixtures, and drapery to create definition. Acoustical solutions include a wall of fabric-wrapped tiles and large area rugs. A massive glass pivot door connects the space to a restaurant. The new neighborhood living room adds value for tenants and the community with a unique departure from traditional office lobby design.
