The Hangout is an interactive installation that focuses on using sight, sound, and touch to spark community activity and social interaction through play, in a once underutilized space. The project is located in an empty lot next to the communities only laundry mat, grocery store, and barber shop in the Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans. This community is low-income area that is still struggling to get back on its feet almost 10 years after Hurricane Katrina. The Urban Conga used touch sensor technology to provide a unique experience that the community could call theirs.
