Tongling Recluse was originally a damaged, mixed-style dwelling. For the layout, we added a span in the west as well as the south-north. The traditional folding roof and a streamline combined into one, reflecting Taoist culture: “the three generates everything”. The previous walls shaped the main space, which are now interior partitions. We marked original old bricks and rebuilt the wall with them after finishing the new foundation. Thus, we responded to both the local culture and also to eco-sustainability.
