The Whale Bay House is approximately 5,000 square feet with an additional 2,100 square feet of decks overlooking Whale Bay in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand, and part of a 3,000-acre sheep/cattle station. The house is designed with a flexible, sustainable, prototype building system adaptable to a broad range of climates and terrains. This site is subtropical, 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean. The home sits lightly on the land, with cantilevers that minimize site disruption. The interior responds to the site with a linear configuration, allowing views of the Pacific from all living areas.
