YKK80, the new headquarters of YKK Group, was completed on its 80th anniversary year. The main façade, oriented west, faces a busy street with an elevated expressway. The façade was designed with a delicate aluminum screen over double-pane glazing with built-in “climber-blinds” to achieve a dignified design and to reduce heat load while maintaining an openness to the neighborhood. Through various sustainable efforts, YKK80 became the first building in Japan to win the First Place ASHRAE Technology Award (2017) and the first office building in Japan to be certified LEED Platinum-Core&Shell.
