The revitalization of the 1930s Bata Shoe factory respects its Modernist heritage while introducing new materials and striking design elements. The façade features a projecting central volume with wood-clad balconies that add playful voids to the otherwise planar façade, with brick cladding that echoes the factory’s original appearance. Inside, a double height lobby features a sculptural steel and terrazzo curved stair wrapping around the original factory’s over-sized concrete column. The heating and cooling systems are fed by an intensive geothermal system, focusing on a sustainable future.
