The initial idea for this project started from the memory of the childhood home of the client, in Central Java. A house with collective memories about light, air and materiality. These things are what the designer captured from the client’s tales. Based on these memories, the design developed around sensitivity and courtesy for materiality. There are five main concepts in this house: the use of brick as thermal insulation; the use of local materials for less of a carbon footprint; a secondary skin as a light mediator; cross ventilation and a water feature for a passive cooling system; vegetation as an ecosystem generator.
