The restoration of this building was designed to replicate the beauty of an original, 100-year-old construction, in the eldest quadrangle area of central Beijing. The original building was dangerous, which increased the difficulty of reinforcing and rebuilding without any trace. It proved difficult to balance the style of the bar with privacy within the historical neighborhood. Like the word “quad”, which contains a meaning of centrality and privacy, this architectural space blended modern use and function with the ancient setting it is located within.
