Situated on Angel Island, this sanctuary serves to remember the tragic past of the landscape and function as a meditative haven for those who enter. Angel Island used to be an entry port for immigrants coming from Asia around 1890 but instead of welcoming new citizens, the office kept them in barracks before turning them away. The sanctuary highlights and remembers the history of Angel Island immigration while supporting citizenship for people now and in the future.
