2020: Tang Priest’s Journey to the West borrows the historical storyline of Tang Xuanzhang’s (Tang Priest) classical odyssey to the Western Regions as a probe into the question of what “context” means in today’s world. The project contains a series of imagination of the monk’s movable device at different time points of his journey. As the monk’s journey proceeds, his installation is continuously expanded, demolished, or partly replaced in respond to the change in his contexts, namely, climate of his geographical location, the events he encountered, and the volume of sacred objects accumulated.
