The Moon Catcher

Firm LocationLondon, United Kingdom
University/SchoolLondon South Bank University
Lead ArchitectPiotr Smiechowicz

Mental health issues attributable to social media, and trends such as the Posthuman are leading to depression. The Loneliness Experiment ran by the UK’s Radio 4 indicated 40% of people aged 16-24 feel isolated. The Moon Catcher is a diurnal space to connect with nature’s beauty, escape the screen’s light, and feel the Epicurean pleasures of body and mind. During daylight, users learn about cosmology and mental health, stretching out on the craterous urban beach. At dusk, moonbathing becomes the dernier cri, welcoming pleasures from the moon’s phases, before retiring to a private room at dawn.
