Caterpillar started as a technical challenge: place eight apartments within one massive prefabricated Quonset Hut while prioritizing natural light and a regenerative landscape design. The result is an 9,000 SF, 8-unit, sanctuary inspired, residential project in Core City, Detroit. By designing around a single prefabricated Quonset hut, funds could be reallocated to spacious, thoughtful interiors and a 150-tree public greenspace. Each apartment has 23 foot ceilings and 12 to 18 windows. The units are designed capture the sunrise in the bedrooms and the sunset in the living room.
