By adding a transparent, immaterial and structural layer to the Grand Théâtre de Québec, this innovative solution protects and preserves the building’s two defining components: its brutalist architecture and sculptural mural. The complex, delicate rescue operation maintains the continuity of the original design narrative, with the thin glass making its brutalist lines and artistic statement even more striking. Depending on the light, it reflects the city or showcases the theatre. A sensitive response to a complex problem, this advance from the Lemay/Atelier 21 team is a North American first.
