Royd Clan's Autonomous House was inspired by the 360o views of the Barabool Hills and the 1880s house ruins on site. Understanding clients’ aspirations, the Pavilions cluster is sought to be playful, biophilic, and regenerative. The pavilions emulate the site’s prominent boulders and respond to Indigenous stories; Along with the repurposing of the scattered limestones, it consolidates a sense of history, belonging, and continuity of the site's Indigenous and colonial past. Entirely self-sufficient, incorporating passive house principles, the house harvests water, generates energy and income.
