Botaniko is a new residential development located on a 120-acre former golf course in the community of Weston, Florida. Just half-a-mile from Everglades National Park, it was designed as an ecotone where the Everglades biome and a suburban community merge. Surrounded by narrow waterways, this underutilized site was polluted by arsenic-laden herbicides and required intensive remediation. An alternative to a highly manicured landscape, Botaniko offers a model for increasing native biodiversity and for balancing development with environmental concerns.
