High-rise structures risk becoming solitary buildings with poor connectivity to its urban surroundings. Sited in an area undergoing urban renewal in Singapore, City Gate connects the business district to the heritage district of Kampong Glam, with a street-facing 5-sty podium anchoring 2 inter-connected residential towers. Landscaped communal floors and sky terraces punctuate the 25-sty towers, offering spectacular city views. Inspired by motion in nature, the flowing lines and canopies along the towers and across the podium’s perforated metal skin, sculpt and create a prominent urban gateway.
