The first multi-storey transport centre in Canada and the first to go underground in North America, Montreal’s Bellechasse Transport Centre was designed to minimize the impact on its surroundings and to create an urban space that encourages active discovery and use. Bellechasse’s circular volume conceals heavy vehicle operations underground while offering open and abundantly skylit spaces for work. This concealment gives way to a generous green roof for the public. Featuring scenic trails, rest areas and natural gardens, it provides a green haven and meeting space for neighborhood residents.
