Elevated New York City's elevated train lines in four boroughs are an integral part of the city's architectural fabric. From stations and moving trains, the els provide views of the urban landscape not available from the streets below. And at the street level, the el structures interact with buildings and streets in significant ways. My photographs, taken on, from, under, and around the city's els, reveal their influence on our aesthetic perception of the cityscape. I took these pictures at twilight because the shifting light of that transitional time brings out forms less visible in daylight
