Inspired by traditional southeast Asian rattan receptacles, Rattan Clouds reinterprets rattan in modern forms. Working with traditional craftsmen and using techniques of arching rattan, Rattan Clouds was designed to meet multi-configurability, functionality and structural integrity. The spherical concept of containing an object was developed to form 2-3 piece modules that could be stacked to create multi-layered displays, storage, seating and lighting. These modules could be lowered/raised by hand cranks using a system of pulleys and wires.
