This dock negotiates between land, water, and sky, framing one’s understanding of the natural environment, above, along, and in the water. The screen and roof geometry were calibrated to attain the client’s desire to have 50% sun and 50% shade throughout the year. On the equinox, light and shadow are balanced. Sensory experiences are inherent in the relationship between the dock and its natural context. The structure and screens are accentuated to provide dappled light and shade while reflecting ambient light and warm tones of the surrounding materials, water, and natural vegetation.
