cellular is a climate improving facade tile that introduces a new aesthetic of city greening by integrating air algae as an architectural feature. New types of ceramic surfaces provide adaptable habitats for the vegetation and allow defining its growth by area and color. To cover the microbes´ moisture needs self-sufficiently, the hollow tiles unseal the facade by storing rainwater. While its constant evaporation causes a natural air conditioning, the micro-patina absorbs pollutants from the air. This way, the urban challenges of rainwater management and air quality can be addressed together.
