When our client bought this house and approached us to do the work, it was practically a tear-down. The previous owner had tried to do work on the house without going through the City and had made a series of missteps that resulted in what we discovered to be severely inadequate structure among other things. They were caught by the City and instead of completing the work properly sold the house in disarray with a half-completed project underway. Our first job was to restore the house to its original state. As we researched the old storybook ranch style, we and the owner became enamored with the fifties lifestyle that the original house emulated and focused on returning it to that condition. The interior leans toward a mid-century modern aesthetic with its terrazzo floors and walnut paneling but the framework of the house is squarely rooted in the storybook ranch style.
