The conception of the proposal began with the intention to create a timeless piece of architecture that will represent and fulfill SALCRA's function and vision of generating a sustainable development in the rural area of Sarawak, particularly in this unique site. It is to be a purposed-built Academy that is away from the hustle and bustle of the city like Kuching , Capital of Sarawak, Malaysia. The inspiration for the training Academy came literally from SALCRA's own Logo where the element of the Sun is the source of renewable energy and the 5 knots symbolize strength and unity. The painstaking design and planning process has also taken on a more purist approach to achieve a well balance aesthetics verses function, natural verses controlled environment whilst fulfilling the requirements of an up-to-date, state-of-the- art Academy. Environmental concerns will be addressed in passive design to respond to the climate and considered landscaping throughout. The traditonal elements implemented of a rumah 'panjang' (the long house),such as series of column, low roof, long series of corridors, blending with Sarawak motive and decoration into the design. The idea of this development is to integrate Traditional Sarawak design elements together with a modern style of architecture.
