Anchoring the CBD is the China World Development which has grown organically over the past 30 years. This Phase 3C Development will be the fifth and final phase for this development. Although China World Development is highly visible and recognizable from a distance, when one approaches the masterplan it is evident there is no “Civic Focal Point” or a “front door” to the complex. Phase 3C will be the missing link that will unify the developments components. The proposal looks at doing this in two complimentary approaches. The first is by introducing a “Civic Green” for the entire masterplan, which it now lacks without any continuous open space. Secondly, the proposal develops a singular, powerful and obvious “front door” to the entire complex. This entrance was located at the most visible and accessible corners of the site. In addition, the new development will allow the basement retail to have continuous loop which also ties the current and future subway lines together, to enable and encourage connections over and under the Third Ring Road. As the new “front door” of China World, 3C will become a catalyst as a cultural center that brings people together from within and beyond China World.
