In a grand heritage art deco building offering warehouse-proportioned space, Rob Mills Architecture have re-imagined a place for a business devoted to mindfulness and movement, the new Sydney studio of One Hot Yoga. The beautiful evidence of the building’s past, its pitched roof and steel frame windows, are offset by curved walls, soft greys and warm timber accented with metallic brass details. Low bench seating, crisp white light and abundant greenery creates a welcoming mood which is never elitist. The design enhances and conveys the sensuality of the space from a curved water feature. Full height mirrors multiply the generous volumes, whilst unique design objects and artworks provide brilliant punctuation in the meditative, calm interior. The passage to the change areas features drapery, providing tactile experiences for patrons. To further facilitate movement and wellness, a sophisticated hydronic heating system was selected, offering the purest form of fresh air climate control and perfect moisture balance. The design brief had in-built provisions for minimising the environmental impact of the studio, upholding the ideals of the One Yoga brand. This refined, highly crafted space offers an experience of space and light that is at one with the brilliance and sensuality of Sydney.
